1. The password must have AT LEAST a minimum of 5 characters.
2. The password SHOULD NOT be equivalent to the POP3 username.
3. The password MUST CONTAIN at least a minimum of 1 symbol. (New policy)

The new password policy apply to ONLY new email accounts creation and update/modification of existing password via the control panel or Smartermail web interface with immediate effect on 11 May 2009.

However, we will apply the changes to all the existing email accounts which has been setup prior to the implementation of the new policy by 27 May 2009. You are advise to update your email account password if your current password does not meet the above requirement before 27 May 2009. Failure to do so will cause your password to be rejected by the Smartermail mail server and you will be prompted for 'Password Rejection' error at your local mail client as well as not being able to login to the WebMail.

There was major breakdown at SMW4 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4) submarine cable. At now, the cableship is currently under mobilization and is expected to reach fault ground .

Important Changes on JS-Solutions Networks' Policies with effective on 1st May 2008.

1. Email forwarding to Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail and other popular free email provider

1.1. We will no longer permit email forwarding from your hosted email account to any of the free email service providers (e.g. tm.net.my,streamyx.com, yahoo.com, gmail.com, hotmail.com, aol.com, rocketmail.com and so on) or any online groups (e.g. Google groups and Yahoo groups) in our shared hosting mail server.

1.2. This is due to free email service provider has applied more strict anti-spam policy in their mail server. Due to this issue, if they detected many of our customers set their email account to forward a copy of the email to the free email service providers. If the account have a lot of email being send to the account, all the email will be forwarded to his or her free email account and instead of Yahoo detect it as an email, it detect the forwarding as attack on the free email account. Due to that issue, the service provider will block us from sending email to their email account.

1.3. Unfortunately, even though we are not responsible for this spam, these service providers noted have repeatedly been blacklisting our mail servers, causing legitimate email to be blocked.

1.4. In order provide a smooth email transaction between our mail server and those email service providers, we decided to disallowed customer from forward their email to the email service provider.

1.5. If you have any of your user email account forward any email to any free email service provider. Kindly request them to remove the email forwarding.

2. Custom .dll installation is no longer supported.

2.1. We will no longer provide any custom installation software and dlls’ on our Linux and Windows shared server.

2.2. The below are the reason of not permitting custom installation software and dlls:

- Installation of the dlls and custom software will cause our web server configuration change
- might affect our other customer website
- standardized all our server configuration
- If requires any of the custom installation software or dll, kindly consider taking up a dedicated server.

3. Reminder: Adult Contents Are Strictly Prohibited.

3.1. Adult Contents are strictly prohibited on JS-Solutions Networks' network.

3.2. What we categorized as Adult Contents, but not limited to:
- Website that sells sex toys
- Website that contains porn video
- Websites contain nude photos
- Website relates to gay and lesbian

The PHP development team announces that support for PHP 4 will discontinue after 2007. After 31 December 2007 there will be no more new release for PHP 4.4.x. However, PHP development team will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 08 August 2008.

To ensure all our servers’ software are up to date and vulnerability free, we had scheduled for an upgrade on all our shared and reseller hosting servers to the latest PHP 5.2.x version. This also means that we will disable and no longer support PHP 4.4.x in both our Windows and Linux hosting packages. Please ensure your application is compatible with the latest PHP 5.2.x.

Please be informed that affective 3rd Dec 2007, Telekom Malaysia had blocked Outbound Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic or port 25 for all out going e-mails from dynamic IP addresses. Only Outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be allowed. With this implementation, Streamyx customers who have their own mail server (Example: mail.YourDomain.com) will not be able to send out e-mails using email program.


Note: Clients who are using JS-Solutions Networks' Webmail or using other Internet Service Provider that allows custom SMTP server will not be affected.

1. Greylisting (SmarterMail)

Greylisting is a new tool in the fight against spam. What it does is temporarily block incoming mail from a sender. It returns the mail to the sender's mail server with a message saying try again later. The sending server must then retry sending the mail after the Block Period but before the Pass Period.

Greylisting is effective because spammers will not usually bother to attempt a second delivery, but legitimate e-mail servers will.

Greylisting is a very effective method of spam blocking that comes at a minimal price in terms of performance. Most of the actual processing that needs to be done for Greylisting takes place on the sender's server. It has been shown to block upwards of 95% of incoming spam simply because so many spammers don't use a standard mail server which will do automatic retries.

2. Spamhaus (SBL-XBL)


SBL-XBL is a combination of 2 famous spam checking against SBL ( Spamhaus Block List ) and XBL Spamhaus Exploits Block List (XBL).
SBL ( Spamhaus Block List ) is a realtime database of IP addresses of verified spam sources (including spammers, spam gangs and spam support services), maintained by the Spamhaus Project team and supplied as a free service to help email administrators better manage incoming email streams.

The SBL is queriable in realtime by mail systems thoughout the Internet, allowing email administrators to identify or block incoming connections from IP addresses involved in the sending of Unsolicited Bulk Email.

The SBL database is updated 24/7 by a dedicated international Spamhaus team (US, UK, NL, IT, CA, JP, CN) and is broadcast by 32 SBL zone mirror servers based in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, UK and USA.
XBL ( Exploits Block List ) is a realtime database of IP addresses of illegal 3rd party exploits, including open proxies (HTTP, socks, AnalogX, wingate, etc), worms/viruses with built-in spam engines, and other types of trojan-horse exploits. It incorporates CBL data, OPM data and NJABL proxy data.

The XBL wholly incorporates data from three highly-trusted DNSBL sources:
- the CBL (Composite Block List) from cbl.abuseat.org
- the BOPM (Blitzed Open Proxy Monitor) from opm.blitzed.org
- the NJABL open proxy IPs list from www.njabl.org.


3. SPAMCOP (SCBL)


The SpamCop Blocking List (SCBL) lists IP addresses which have transmitted reported email to SpamCop users. SpamCop, service providers and individual users then use the SCBL to block and filter unwanted email. The SCBL is a fast and automatic list of sites sending reported mail, fueled by a number of sources, including automated reports and SpamCop user submissions. The SCBL is time-based, resulting in quick and automatic delisting of these sites when reports stop.


4. DSBL


The DSBL ( Distributed Sender Blackhole List ) lists contain the IP addresses of servers which have relayed special test messages to listme@listme.dsbl.org; this can happen if the server is an open relay, an open proxy or has another vulnerability that allows anybody to deliver email to anywhere, through that server.
The Distributed Sender Blackhole List has three DNSBL lists, one can have entries added by anybody while the other only accepts entries by testers who are trusted by the DSBL staff. We have chose to use the list.dsbl.org from DSBL on our mail server.

single stage open SMTP relays
open proxies allowing the CONNECT command
web servers using a non-secure formmail
Only trusted testers can list hosts in this list

5.ORDB ( Open Relay Database)


ORDB.org is the Open Relay Database. ORDB.org is a non-profit organisation which stores a IP-addresses of verified open SMTP relays. These relays are, or are likely to be, used as conduits for sending unsolicited bulk email, also known as spam. By accessing this list, system administrators are allowed to choose to accept or deny email exchange with servers at these addresses.
In addition to the above RBLs which are applied to all our Windows / Linux shared / reseller hosting packages, the following spam protection is also supported on our mail server depending on the server platform ( Windows / Linux ) you have signed up:


6. Bayesian Filtering ( Windows platform ) :


Bayesian filtering is the process of using Bayesian statistical methods to classify documents into categories.
Bayesian email filters take advantage of Bayes' theorem. Bayes' theorem, in the context of spam, says that the probability that an email is spam, given that it has certain words in it, is equal to the probability of finding those certain words in spam email, times the probability that any email is spam, divided by the probability of finding those words in any email.


7. SpamAssassin ( Linux Platform ) :


A mail filter, written in Perl, to identify spam using a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text. SpamAssassin is disabled by default when your hosting account is setup on the server.]]>

The National Trust Council (NTC) has appointed CommerceNet Singapore Ltd as the Authorised Code Owner (ACO) for both the B2B and B2C TrustSg accreditation scheme. B2B and B2C eBusinesses that are accredited will now receive the BusinessTrust (B2B) / ConsumerTrust (B2C) trust mark and the government endorsed TrustSg seal.

What is TrustSG?

TrustSg is a nation-wide trust mark initiative by NTC to boost confidence in electronic transaction in Singapore. The trust mark serves as recognition of sound business, emphasizing that it is compliant to the latest good business practice and standards, including respecting users' privacy. Alliances with Japan and Korea had started the cross-boundary recognition of the trust mark.

Currently, the trust mark programme is compulsory for all the ministries and government agencies. To promote this, NTC through Infocomm Development Authority (iDA) and CommerceNet Singapore are administering a full grant to help companies comply with the trust marks' requirements with the objective of making Singapore a viable trusted hub. The Official TrustSg portal www.trustsg.com.sg was revamped and launched on the 27th May 2005. All accredited companies will be listed on this portal. We have also managed to get the portal featured on MSN, Yahoo and AsiaOne online campaigns.

TrustSg Fee Structure

Both iDA and CommerceNet are giving grants to all B2B companies applying for this accreditation. Total cost for the B2B accreditation is S$3,100.00. Your cost is to get this accreditation is only S$100.00.

Details of the fee structure are as follows:

Application Fee: S$100.00
BusinessTrust/TrustSg Accreditation Audit and Certification Fee: S$3000.00
50% Grant from CommerceNet Singapore :(S$1500.00)

If you are in the B2B sector, you are required to have an eService in place. This means that your web site must provided an automated reply with an acknowledgement number or ticketing number for all queries online. Maintenance Description:
During this time we will be physically moving servers from existing facility to the new datacenter located in downtown Denver, Colorado.
We will be physically powering down your servers, loading them onto a cargo truck, transporting them to new data center facility, racking them at new facility, and then connecting your servers to the network.
Finally, we will power your servers back up.

Maintenance Impact:
As a result of this move, you should expect your servers to be down during a significant portion of the above noted maintenance windows.
Actual amounts of downtime will vary from one server to another due to the large number of servers we will be moving each night. However, once we have completed the move, you will not need to take any further action or make any changes. Your servers will start working again once powered up in our new datacenter facility.

Communications Plan:
Our helpdesk will be fully functional and staffed during the migrations.

<![CDATA[Discontinue of Neomail Support for Linux Hosting]]>
The current Exim mail version we use is running on .mbox. format where the email messages of all users under the same domain are stored in one single file. We will upgrade Exim to an enhanced version which support .maildir format. With this new .maildir. Exim version, email messages will be stored in separate inbox file for every user and this will fix the problem where mailbox get locked when downloading emails via POP3 which some of our users might have experienced.

With this Exim mail version upgrade; Neomail will no longer be supported as part of the webmail option. This is due to Neomail does not support running on Exim .maildir. format. However, Horde and SquirrelMail is still available as part of the webmail option in our Linux hosting.

We will be running the upgrade by batch mode across our Linux hosting servers in US.

<![CDATA[E-mail forwarding Notice]]>
Please be informed that with immediate effect, e-mail forwarding go the following service providers will no longer be permitted that resides in both our Windows and Linux share hosting and reseller hosting services:

aol.com
comcast.net
att.net
msn.com
hotmail.com

In order to ensure deliverability of email sent by our customers to accounts at the above noted domains, we are forced to block all email forwarding to these domains. Presently, all of these domains have extremely stringent anti-spam filtering policies in place. If one of our customers configures their email account hosted with us to forward to their personal mailbox with one of the noted service providers and the service provider detects that message as spam, they believe that we are the source of the spam. As a result, our mail server gets blacklisted, even though we are not responsible for this spam.

Unfortunately, even though we are not responsible for this spam, these service providers noted have repeatedly been blacklisting our mail servers, causing legitimate email to be blocked. If you or your customers have forwarders configured to one of the above service providers, please remove the forwarding and convert them to POP3 accounts.

Also, please note that this decision only impacts forwarders. You will still be able to send email to the above noted service providers. In fact, this change will actually make mail delivery to these service providers more reliable, since they will not be repeatedly blacklisting our servers.

Things to take notes
================================
1. If you keep all your emails on your Webmail, you are advised to download a copy of your emails to your local Email Client. You may configure your email accounts on email clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or ThunderBird (FREE).
2. Mailing List feature will be disabled after we upgrade to SmarterMail.
3. Catch all email account will be disabled after the migration. This will eliminate significant amount of incoming SPAM emails.
4. We will migrate the emails which you stored on your Webmail to the new SmarterMail’s Webmail. However, this process might take up to 1 week as the numbers are huge and we need to perform the conversion of emails in batch. Thus, for users who has important emails store on the webmail, we recommend you to download a copy to your local mail client as stated above.
5. Any custom settings on your domain’s email settings which is done out side HELM control panel, will not be replicated over to the new server. This includes Display Name, Email Signature, Auto Response, Email redirection and Email Filtering,
6. If you relay your emails via your internal office mail server, please make sure you have enabled “SMTP Authentication”.
7. Meadmin feature will be disabled after the upgrade. You will be able to set maximum disk quota per mailbox via HELM control panel after we upgraded to HELM version 4.
8. Maximum email space per domain is limited to 1GB. Default maximum email space per mailbox is 200MB.
